Trifids!!!

The goal of today's trip was to visit the Pastoruri glacier and ice caves. This glacier, like so many in the world, is receding fast due to mans impact on our worlds climate. Up at 5100m it was a breathless and cold place, but beautiful all the same.

Along the way I also got to see the gigantic Puya Raymondi plants, which stand up to 12m high. Looked like immobile Trifids to me! These plants are basically enormous pineapples. They only grow between 3700m and 4200m, and are unique to this Andean region.
