At this time of the year the Pantanal is drying up fast, but there are huge stretches of open ground still covered in water. The boots filled up fast and soon we were waist deep in h2o. Our aim to to fish a deeper lake where hopefully we would catch even larger piranhas. We failed in that but still caught 20 or so medium sized specimens.
On the way back we treked through the many dry forested islands. We heard them first, roaring away in the treetops, then we saw them. A troop of howler monkeys.
